What can Aloe Vera do for you?
Aloe Vera is also known as the plant of a thousand remedies , and rightly so.
Its origin is not entirely clear, it is believed to be of Arabic origin, but it is known with certainty that it was already used in ancient medicines in ancient cultures of Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean basin.
It is said that Cleopatra herself already used it to care for her skin, hair and nails.
Two compounds are basically obtained from aloe vera leaves :
- Acíbar or latex: it is the liquid resulting from the incision of the leaves, crystalline brown in color and very bitter. This liquid is rich in anthraquinones, which have a laxative effect. This extract is not used for cosmetic use, but rather medicinal, helping with intestinal problems.
- The Gel: is the pulp of the leaves, transparent in color. It is mainly composed of water, enzymes and minerals. We can use aloe vera gel externally for skin treatment, or internally for gastritis and gastric ulcer. Unlike latex, it has no laxative effect nor is it irritating.
